Jamaïque : Ruel Reid Named in Evidence on Six Retail Purchases
Former Education Minister Ruel Reid was named in evidence involving six retail purchases during his fraud trial at Andrew Parish Court on Thursday, according to testimony presented by a witness overseeing safety and security at the merchant. The prosecution introduced customer pick-up notes from 2018 detailing purchases of items such as a Samsung Smart TV, an Android TV box, a Proctor kettle, a Hamilton Beach juicer, a Black + Decker iron, and a Conair foot spa.

The witness testified that valid government-issued identification cards are required for cash transactions. He confirmed that the customer pick-up notes associated with Reid's phone number were verified against the merchant’s database records on February 5, 2019. The witness signed and certified six copies of these documents as true representations of the original records.
During cross-examination by defense attorney Anthony Armstrong, questions arose about whether authorizations existed to indicate another person might have picked up the items instead of Reid. Despite this, under re-examination, the prosecutor asked if based on the customer pick-up notes, it could be concluded that Ruel Reid collected all six items. The witness responded affirmatively.
Reid and his co-accused are facing a 35-count indictment for allegedly participating in a scheme to siphon off over $25 million from the Ministry of Education and CMU. They have pleaded not guilty, and their bail was extended until court resumes on Tuesday.
