Postponement of the electoral campaign until October 31
The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) announced on Monday, the day scheduled for the official start of the electoral campaign, that it has been postponed indefinitely. In a press release dated October 5, 2026, the CEP also extended the online registration of candidates and the submission of their required documents until October 31, 2026.

Decision of the CEP
The postponement of the electoral campaign without a new date is mainly linked to the need to give candidates and political structures the time required to complete legal formalities. The electoral calendar will be updated with the authorized parties, but no specific date has been announced.
Background
Since March 2026, several deadlines have already been pushed back: candidate registration, initially scheduled from April 1 to October 2, has been extended until October 31. This series of postponements raises questions about the holding of the vote scheduled for December 13, 2026.
Reactions
OAS Secretary General Albert Ramdin stated that he avoids claiming this date is certain. Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé declared during a meeting with Political Parties that adjustments will be made as many times as necessary for the electoral process.
