The lawyers for the doctor treating the deceased Argentine star who died in November 2020 have requested that he be granted full immunity from the charges against him. This move comes as the prosecution has sought sentences ranging from four to twelve years in prison for six of the seven individuals brought to justice, among whom are medical professionals accused of potentially fatal negligence during home care provided to the former player.
Scapegoat Defense
According to RFI, the defense team of Leopoldo Luque, who is the main defendant, has maintained his innocence during the debates on Wednesday, October 21. Lawyer Roberto Rallin stated: "For the prosecution, Leopoldo Luque was 'a scapegoat,' considering the practitioner as the designated target of the case." Alongside his colleague, lawyer Francisco Oneto argued that the death of Diego Maradona resulted from a sudden cardiac arrest that could not have been predicted.
