According to El Día (RD), Father Rogelio Cruz, a local priest, demands that the judge change the legal classification of the charge from involuntary manslaughter to voluntary manslaughter.
Maribel Espaillat, cited by El Día (RD), requests that the court consider the facts as intentional violations rather than acts of negligence.
Judge Franny González Castillo had postponed the previous hearing so that lawyers could prepare their arguments in response to new requests to modify the charges. If these modifications are accepted, the Espaillats could face a sentence of up to 30 years in prison instead of the two years currently under consideration.
The families of the victims continue to gather every month on the 8th to demand justice and commemorate their loved ones who died. The roof collapse occurred during a music show hosted by Rubby Pérez, who also lost his life in the accident.
