The Haitian Government today launched a new framework to step up priority reforms over a 12-month period. The compact, drawn up with the support of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and other international partners, aims to improve public confidence in the Haitian government.

According to Serge Gabriel Colin, Haiti's Minister of the Economy and Finance, the compact turns commitments into concrete action with clear deadlines. It covers four priority areas: the rule of law, justice and security; governance and the fight against corruption; macroeconomic stability and taxation; and sustainable jobs and investment.

The compact provides for two reports to track progress. The first will be published after six months, in April 2017, allowing a transparent assessment of progress against the commitments made.

Anne-Lucie Lefebvre, World Bank Group operations lead for Haiti, welcomed the efforts made by the Haitian government and remains committed to supporting the implementation of the proposed reforms.

The compact also aims to address the underlying drivers of fragility and violence in Haiti, underscoring the importance of improvements in security, employment and governance.
