OAS requests renewal of MINUJUSTH mandate
The 32 active member states of the Organization of American States (OAS) have called on the United Nations Security Council to renew and fully deploy the Gang Support Force (GSF) in Haiti. This request, made in a joint statement published on September 25, aims to support Haiti's efforts to improve its security.

Albert Ramdin, Secretary General of the OAS who led a mission to Haiti from August 16 to 19, emphasizes that the GSF plays a crucial role in supporting Haitian authorities. "We must honor the aspirations of the Haitian people by continuing our support for the GSF and renewing its mandate," he said.
The statement highlights the need for full deployment of the force, which involves financing, material resources, and adequate logistical support. Ramdin added: "A mandate alone does not produce results" and stressed that concrete means are essential to achieve set goals.
Haiti's Permanent Representative to the OAS, Jean Josué Pierre, indicated that the statement aims to strengthen the country's security institutions. "The message is clear: the mandate of the GSF must be renewed and its full deployment ensured to protect the population and create conditions conducive to credible elections," he specified.
The statement calls for a constant presence of the Haitian National Police at strategic infrastructure sites. It also emphasizes improving territorial control, restoring essential access points, and protecting citizens in areas freed from gangs.
Among other priorities are disarming illegal forces, restoring public services, and better coordination between Haiti, the OAS, the United Nations, and other international partners. Member states also encourage stronger measures against arms trafficking and funding for those who support gangs.
