Doctors Without Borders (MSF) warns of the worsening of armed confrontations in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince. According to Vant Bèf Info, which relays a statement published on Wednesday, October 28, the organization admitted 30 people injured by gunfire or explosions from drones at its hospitals in Tabarre and Cité Soleil. These admissions took place between October 18 and 26. MSF notes that women and children are among the wounded.
Increasing Difficulty in Accessing Care
According to the statement, insecurity complicates access to care. Blocked roads hinder patient travel and also impede the arrival of medical personnel and supplies needed by health facilities.
MSF further indicates that some medical activities have been suspended, as well as water supply operations. The organization warns that these interruptions risk worsening the situation for populations already strained.
What the Organization Demands
MSF calls on Haitian authorities and parties involved in the conflict to take all necessary measures to protect civilians. It also demands safe access to medical facilities and reminds that these structures and people affected by the fighting must be respected.
The World's Report
The World newspaper also reports several dozen wounded, including women and children, treated in hospitals in the capital. The daily places this toll since October 18, the day four Salvadorian soldiers disappeared in an ambush set by armed gangs. The number of 30 reported by MSF concerns only its own facilities in Tabarre and Cité Soleil.
