Marie-Ange Lorméus takes the helm of the Social Assistance Fund

The Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Marc-Elie Nelson, installed Marie-Ange Lorméus as the new director of the Social Assistance Fund (CAS) on Thursday, October 8, 2026. Ms. Lorméus, a seasoned public administrator and active in Haiti’s sports movement, expressed her wish to use her skills to serve the most vulnerable populations.

In her first speech, the new director emphasized that her mandate would be guided by humility, responsibility, integrity, and service. She highlighted the essential mission of the CAS in protecting and improving the living conditions of vulnerable individuals and families.

Drawing on her experience in public administration, Marie-Ange Lorméus aims to prioritize a management style based on listening, rigor, and efficiency. She indicated that she would work closely with staff to identify institutional challenges, assess resources, and improve beneficiary services.

Among her priorities is the completion of an assessment to define realistic actions adapted to available means. The installation ceremony was attended by the deputy director of the CAS, Bigues Florestal, as well as officials and employees from the MAST.

Marie-Ange Lorméus is a known figure in Haiti’s sports movement for her work within the Haitian National Karate Federation. Her experience in public administration will enable her to effectively achieve the goals of the CAS.

Next Steps

The new director announced that she would focus on evaluating resources and improving services for beneficiaries, to ensure efficient and responsible management of the Social Assistance Fund.
