The headquarters of Martinique Développement in Montgérald was struck by a fire during the night of October 31 to November 1. According to Karibinfo, the premises belong to the Collectivité Territoriale de Martinique and are used by the agency. An investigation has been launched and, based on initial findings, arson is suspected as the cause of the blaze.
An almost entirely destroyed building
According to RCI Martinique, one of the agency's two buildings was almost entirely consumed by the flames. The two neighboring buildings, belonging to SAFER and MEDEF, were spared. RCI Martinique links the agency to the CTM and describes it as being responsible for supporting Martinican businesses and entrepreneurs wishing to invest in the territory.
A night of burning barricades
According to RCI Martinique, the night was turbulent between Sainte-Thérèse and Montgérald. The RPPRAC had mobilized on October 31 in an attempt to block access to Carrefour Dillon. Burning roadblocks were subsequently set up in the area around 8 p.m. Law enforcement intervened to clear them. Police state that these barricades had been put up by about fifteen hooded individuals.
The sources consulted do not state whether the fire at the agency's headquarters is linked to these barricades. Nor do they specify who might be responsible.
What remains unknown
No official assessment of the damage has been provided. The exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear, which the launched investigation must seek to determine.
