ACTUALITÉ

Art Center Training

After the Anténor Firmin High School in Port-au-Prince, Louissaint first learned drawing through correspondence courses. Starting in 1969, he attended classes at the Port-au-Prince Art Center, where he trained in drawing, composition, and color handling.

A Reference Teacher

In the 1980s, he began teaching at the Art Center, then at the National School of Arts (ENARTS), where he became a professor in 1983 and was among the oldest. He also taught at GOC, the faculty of engineering and architecture.

Unfiltered Daily Life

His work remained highly consistent. From the start, he chose figurative painting and drew his subjects from ordinary scenes in Haitian cities and countryside. Close to hyperrealism, he looked at them with a neutral eye, rejecting both folklore and misery. His light and colors, marked by great sobriety, sometimes recall Dutch painters of interiors and still lifes.
