The political party Les Engagés pour le Développement (EDE) welcomed the Provisional Electoral Council's (CEP) publication of an electoral calendar on Friday, October 30, 2026. In a statement, EDE said the announcement is an important step toward restoring democratic and constitutional order in Haiti.
EDE recalled that it has been calling for several months for a realistic calendar that takes into account security, material, technical and logistical constraints. The party stressed that the government must now take on its responsibilities to guarantee free, honest, inclusive, transparent and democratic elections.
According to EDE, forming a new government capable of meeting the security challenges is crucial. The party urged Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé to open talks with the main stakeholders to form such a government as soon as possible.
EDE also insisted that the CEP must guarantee impeccable neutrality and transparency. The party said the council must inspire confidence by ensuring that democratic rules are respected and that all competitors are treated equally.
The statement stressed the need to avoid any new post-election crisis after several years of political instability. EDE reaffirmed its determination to take part in the coming elections at every level, to help put an end to the endless cycles of political transitions that have marked the country's governance since 1986.
