The Mouvement de résistance patriotique pour la souveraineté d'Haïti (MRPSA) will hold a symposium on whether democratic elections can be held in the country. According to Rezo Nòdwès, which is relaying the movement's announcement, the meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 18, 2026, in Pétion-Ville, starting at 9 a.m., at a venue known as Le Vilatte.
A question put to intellectuals
Several Haitian intellectuals and creators have been invited to share their analyses and answer questions from the public, including those sent in through social media. The debate opens with this question: "Are democratic, sovereign elections possible in the context of widespread chaos that now prevails in Haiti?"
The MRPSA says it wants to fuel discussion on the political, social and institutional conditions required for such elections, at a time when insecurity and political instability weigh on the institutions and the population.
The movement's reading of history
In its introductory text, the movement traces the current crisis back to the assassination of Jean-Jacques Dessalines. It describes a system of social exclusion and economic dependence in which local elites and foreign powers are said to play a decisive role. It sees the popular mobilizations launched since July 2016 as a challenge to that order.
What the movement objects to in current projects
The MRPSA opposes efforts to amend the 1987 Constitution and the holding of elections that, in its view, would take place before the population has regained real control over political life. It states: "The people who created the country's problems and who have an interest in keeping them in place cannot solve them in place of Haitians."
The movement calls for citizen mobilization around strategies to strengthen national sovereignty and popular participation.
