San Juan Mayor Miguel Romero Lugo believes that Suzanne Roig Fuertes, head of the Departamento de la Familia, should step down from her position. According to Metro Puerto Rico, he stated this during a radio interview. He believes she no longer has the necessary support to lead the agency's work.

He acknowledges that the decision rests solely with the governor and says he does not wish to interfere. He hopes the official will quickly reflect on her own situation, and he believes she should resign.

Referral filed on Monday

Also according to Metro Puerto Rico, Partido Nuevo Progresista Senator Juan Oscar Morales Rodríguez forwarded Roig Fuertes' file to several bodies on Monday. These include the Departamento de Justicia, the Oficina de Ética Gubernamental, the Oficina de la Contralora, and the Office of the Inspector General of the federal Departamento de Salud y Servicios Humanos. The referral concerns the trip to Louisiana and the process that led to the selection of NOLA Education.

Five weapons seized at La Fría VIP

The same mayor also reported on an operation by the Policía Municipal de San Juan. According to Telemundo Puerto Rico, they seized five firearms at dawn at the La Fría VIP establishment on Borinquen Avenue.

The alert for gunshots came in around 4:15 a.m. Upon the arrival of municipal officers and the Puerto Rico police, two motorcycles fled at high speed while shots were heard. The pursuit did not result in catching them.

A woman then told an officer that several of her friends were inside and, according to her, could not get out. She added that armed individuals were present. Around 6:05 a.m., a man opened the door and, according to preliminary information, punched a sergeant. He was arrested.

Officers from the Unidad de Impacto then entered and seized two rifles and a handgun. Two vehicles in which weapons were visible were also seized, bringing the total to five. The commissioner of the Policía Municipal, Juan Jackson, indicated that the priority was to protect the people present and secure the scene.

Fine and investigation

The establishment was fined for violating the Código de Orden Público. It will be referred to the Oficina de Permisos. Authorities are continuing the investigation into the reported shots, the seized weapons, and other events of the night.
