Brignol Lindor, a radio journalist whose murder in 2001 shocked the entire press corps of the country, was born in Petit-Goâve 56 years ago, on November 4, 1970.

A child of Petit-Goâve

He attended primary school at the École Nationale des Palmes and then secondary school at the Lycée Faustin Soulouque, both schools in his hometown. He then studied journalism and law at the École de Droit des Gonaïves, where he earned his law degree.

A voice on the radio

He began his career as a journalist with a press agency before becoming a correspondent for Radio Signal FM. He helped found the Association des Journalists de Petit Goave. From 1995 to 2001, he headed the news department at Radio Echo 2000, where he hosted the political show "Dialogue". There he welcomed guests from all sides, including supporters of Jean-Bertrand Aristide. At the same time, he worked as a customs inspector and taught social sciences. On November 28, 2001, he hosted members of the Convergence Démocratique, an opposition coalition, on his show.

Murdered with a machete

A few days earlier, deputy mayor Dumay Bony had labeled him a terrorist. On the morning of December 3, 2001, near L'Acul, his car was attacked by members of "Dòmi nan Bwa", a group close to Fanmi Lavalas. He tried to hide, but his pursuers caught up with him and hacked him to death with machetes. Two defendants were sentenced to life in prison.
