Pricing Caps and Modalities
According to RCI Guadeloupe, this price regulation applies immediately at 53 workshops across the archipelago following the agreement validated on Wednesday, October 7th. The Secretary General for economic affairs, Yves Dareau, specified that these maximum prices will remain valid for one year. The amount is capped at 145 euros for an oil change and reaches 270 euros for a full maintenance of a gasoline-powered car. According to this official, the agreement encompasses all professional actors, including both dealerships and independent garages or specialized centers, and affects 55% of the territorial vehicle fleet, notably city cars and mid-range vehicles.
Consumer Associations' Reaction
User representatives welcome the initiative positively while announcing regular monitoring of its implementation. Jacqueline Favorinus, secretary of the Union of consumer associations Zauban, stated: "This is an interesting initiative, especially since it affects many households heavily dependent on cars and already facing fuel costs. Accessing preferential rates for recurring services represents a real advance for consumers. However, we will remain vigilant. It is necessary to let the system start up, observe what works or not, and identify points where we can intervene to enrich or improve the offer. We must highlight the voluntary adherence of the entire profession to this approach, which is very positive, but we will closely follow the situation to verify if the system truly meets the population's expectations."
