The Spanish Football Federation fined FC Barcelona 602 euros on Tuesday for illegal contact with Argentine forward Julian Alvarez, who is under contract until 2030 with Atlético Madrid. The Madrid club filed a complaint against the Catalan club for violating the rules governing negotiations between clubs and players.

Rule Not Respected

FC Barcelona was penalized for not having written to the club that Alvarez was contracted with before discussing with the player, as stipulated in the regulations. This infraction results in an unprecedented fine but is trivial compared to potential sanctions that could go up to two months of suspension or an additional match.

Recent History

This is not the first time that Barcelona has been sanctioned for unauthorized contact with players from other clubs. In 2019, it paid a symbolic 300 euros to Atlético after illegally approaching Antoine Griezmann.
