Sale of Marseille officialized after 10 years under Frank McCourt
US President Frank McCourt has sold the Olympian club for an estimated amount between 450 and 500 million euros, according to available information. The Olympique de Marseille (OM) came under his control in October 2016 when he bought it from Margarita Louis-Dreyfus for 45 million euros.

Since this acquisition, McCourt has spent over 710 million euros on the club. This amount includes significant investments and the assumption of substantial debts. Despite these considerable financial efforts, the sporting results have been mixed: a final in the Europa League in 2018, two European semi-finals (including one in the Conference League), three participations in the Champions League, and no participation in the Coupe de France final.
The mayor of Marseille, Jean-Claude Gaudin, had encouraged McCourt during the initial purchase: "You will have to win, you will have to put money into it! Since you have it, that's what you'll do!" The OM has seen its commercial revenues increase significantly in recent years. Ticket revenue has doubled to reach 30.3 million euros while sponsorship-related income has risen from 28.9 to 71.7 million.
Pablo Longoria has moved from the position of sporting director to president in recent months. His arrival has allowed for stricter financial management and a notable improvement in the club's commercialization.
