U.S. justice seeks Maduro for torture
U.S. justice has launched new charges against former Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores, accusing them of being at the center of a decision-making process concerning the torture of opponents. The accusations include acts such as electrocutions, beatings, and simulated drownings.

Maduro and Flores are already being prosecuted for participating in a conspiracy to send cocaine to the United States. These new charges also include a count of conspiracy to commit torture, as well as an extension of the initial indictment concerning narco-terrorism to Cilia Flores.
The couple has been held since January 2026 in New York State. The charges were filed on Thursday, October 8, by U.S. authorities, marking a significant turning point in this complex legal case.
