The Port-au-Prince Book Fair Association (ASALPAP) has increased its educational initiatives to bring young people closer to books and literature. On October 8, the École Sœur Étienne hosted a lecture dedicated to "Gouverneurs de la rosée," a major work by Jacques Roumain, led by John Wisky Louirard under the pseudonym Cobra's. This meeting brought together approximately 120 high school students.
The event aimed not only to present Roumain's literary work but also to spark a renewed interest in reading and writing among the young participants. Two writing workshops were also planned as a follow-up to this activity.
Educational initiatives
ASALPAP has organized several events across schools, universities, and streets to promote literature as a place for meeting, transmission, and openness. Under the theme "Reaching out to others," these initiatives aim to help young people discover the richness of the world of books.
Social interactions
The participants had the opportunity to exchange ideas with John Wisky Louirard about Jacques Roumain, thus creating a space conducive to enriching social and cultural interaction. The goal was to show that literature is not limited to the silent pages of books but is told, shared, and questioned.
