The National Commission for Disarmament, Dismantlement and Reintegration (CNDDR) has announced the opening of a national conference. It is intended to lead to a public policy against armed groups, the recruitment of youth, and violence within communities. According to Juno7, the announcement was made on November 4, 2026. Rezo Nòdwès mentions a press release published on Wednesday.

Who is participating

The three media outlets agree on the composition of the discussions. They bring together public institutions, representatives of civil society and communities, as well as international partners. Haiti24 and Rezo Nòdwès specify that other concerned sectors are also involved.

The CNDDR presents the initiative as a complement to the work of law enforcement and the justice system. It says it wants a policy adapted to Haitian realities, built in a participatory manner.

What the policy must cover

According to Rezo Nòdwès, the strategic framework being targeted touches on disarmament, the dismantlement of armed groups, violence prevention, and social reintegration. The media outlet adds that the government wants to strengthen preventive and social actions in order to tackle what fuels the expansion of armed groups and the recruitment of youth.

Juno7 indicates that the initiative is being led under the aegis of the government. According to this outlet, participants must also examine how institutions will coordinate their interventions and monitor their results. These modalities remain to be determined within the framework of the policy's development.

The call addressed to armed groups

Haiti24 reports that, in parallel, the CNDDR is urging members of armed groups to voluntarily and definitively renounce their weapons. It invites them to make use of legal support and reintegration mechanisms, which it now presents as available and operational.

Still according to Haiti24, the Commission warns that those who continue their criminal activities expose themselves to the full rigor of the law and to judicial prosecution.
