Paulo Fonseca, manager of Olympique Lyonnais (OL), is being targeted by Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon. According to several sources and reports in the Portuguese press, talks between the two clubs are progressing positively.
Sporting Portugal are looking for a replacement for Rui Borges, whose position is becoming increasingly precarious. Fonseca, who knows Portuguese football well after managing FC Porto and Braga, is considered a top priority for the job. Although negotiations are underway between his representatives and Sporting CP, no final agreement has been announced.
Another factor could influence these discussions: OL still owes Sporting an estimated sum of more than 5.5 million euros for the transfer of Afonso Moreira. This debt could become part of the negotiations and facilitate a potential agreement between the two clubs.
Fonseca remains under contract with OL until June 2027 but has not yet extended his deal, leaving the door open for a possible move. Meanwhile, the Lyon board is looking to stabilise the club after several turbulent seasons and need to clarify the manager's intentions soon.
