According to the BRH, this acceleration is mainly due to the rise in oil prices on the national market. New fuel tariffs came into effect on August 10, 2026, with gasoline increasing by 7.7%, diesel by 10%, and kerosene by 10.9%.

The "Transport" sector contributed 44.74% to monthly inflation. The price index for transportation increased by 9.6%. Production and distribution costs were also affected by this rise in fuel prices.

At the same time, some sectors experienced a slowdown in price increases. For example, the index for food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 0.9% in August compared to 1.9% in July. Restaurant prices dropped from 2.2% to 1.1%. There was no monthly variation in communication costs.

Over the year, inflation fell to 17% for the month of August 2026 from 17.5% in July. However, this decrease does not indicate a general decline in prices: levels remain 17% higher compared to the same month of the previous year.

The BRH predicts that for the next three months (September to November), the current trend will continue with a potential slowdown in monthly inflation, reaching respective rates of 1.4% in September, 1.3% in October, and 1.2% in November.
