The Cuban government has announced the creation of community food facilities in hard-to-reach rural areas, including in Sancti Spíritus. According to Ariel Fernández Martín, general director of the Grupo Empresarial de Comercio, several projects are now under way in the municipalities of La Sierpe, Yaguajay and Sancti Spíritus. The initiatives aim to help vulnerable communities by identifying potential beneficiaries and local managers to ensure an adequate food service.

Several localities have already carried out preliminary studies, but the process depends on approval from the administrative councils. In a recent interview, Fernández Martín stressed that the province is facing delays in rolling out this social policy and that procedures need to be speeded up so the first facilities can be set up.
