Jean Marie Salomon, a presidential candidate under the banner of the Struggling People's Organization (OPL), stated on Scoop FM on Friday that he intends to unify his party and improve the security situation in the country. He asserts that these objectives are essential to reviving the Haitian economy.
Political Vision
Salomon, a former senator, presented his ambitions during his appearance on the show IMPASSE on Scoop FM on Friday, October 30, 2026. He advocates for security, justice, and national reconciliation as the pillars of his political project.
Party Reunification
The candidate acknowledged that internal tensions are affecting the OPL but believes they are nothing new for the party. According to him, it is a primary mission: to bring together the different factions within the organization.
Security and Justice
Faced with the deterioration of the national situation, Salomon emphasized the need for strong measures against banditry. "Desperate times call for desperate measures," he stated to justify a firm response to armed groups. He considers that improving security must precede any efforts toward national reconciliation.
Economy and Agriculture
On the economic front, Salomon believes that a better security situation is indispensable for the country's recovery. He also wishes to promote the integration of the diaspora into Haiti's socioeconomic life and advocates for a true agricultural revolution to strengthen national production.
Parliamentary Record
When questioned about his political career, Salomon defended his record in Parliament, asserting that he had carried out his mandate with dignity and integrity. He also presented himself as a constructive opponent who had denounced poor practices in the management of public affairs.
Electoral Calendar
Regarding the electoral calendar, Salomon demanded security guarantees to organize democratic and credible elections. He believes that, so far, the authorities have not shown enough will to regain control of the situation.
