American researcher Jake Johnston asserts that El Salvador's military presence in Haiti does not constitute a rescue operation for the four soldiers who went missing on October 18 in Croix-des-Bouquets. According to him, this intervention is instead a response to internal political imperatives in El Salvador and is part of an American strategy aimed at bypassing the existing Haitian security structure.
Johnston stated on X: "This is not a rescue operation. The United States is once again subcontracting to El Salvador." The researcher maintains that Washington previously used the Salvadoran government to manage immigration issues, and that it is repeating this approach in this context.
These statements come after the arrival of military reinforcements from El Salvador in Haiti. According to local and international press, the force is said to number 450 soldiers. These troops are raising questions about their chain of command and their ties to the Haitian government.
