Île-à-Vache: more than 333 kilos of marijuana seized, one arrest

The Haitian National Police (PNH) seized more than 333 kilos of marijuana on Île-à-Vache, off Les Cayes, and arrested a 22-year-old woman from Tiburon. The operation took place overnight from October 18 to 19 in Grand-Barrière (Gran Baryè), according to the PNH, which announced it on Saturday, October 24.

It was carried out by the Southern department's Anti-Narcotics Trafficking Bureau (BLTS) together with the Haitian Coast Guard. Officers seized nearly 66 bales weighing a total of 333.795 kilos. Preliminary tests on the substance came back positive, iciHaïti reports.

A 9 mm Springfield Armory handgun was also confiscated. The person arrested is presumed innocent.

Haiti's southern coast is often described as a transit zone for drugs, guns and ammunition. Vant Bèf Info had already reported the arrest of two women on Île-à-Vache for marijuana trafficking linked to Jamaicans.
