El Salvador's Vice President, Félix Ulloa, has confirmed that Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé will travel to El Salvador on November 16 and 17 to discuss the future of the troops sent by that country to the Caribbean nation. This meeting will take place during an international conference on the state of democracy.
This operation was aimed at recovering four Salvadoran nationals who went missing during an attack on a vehicle belonging to the Fuerza de Supresión de Pandillas (FSP), which is supported by the United Nations.
Ulloa indicated that, despite criticism regarding the effectiveness and the risk of an explosion of violence in Haiti, the troops have succeeded in "clearing" the area.
The Salvadoran Vice President emphasizes that his country has no intention of replacing the UN-backed FSP, which is currently helping the Haitian police restore security in the country.
