Guingamp beat Saint-Étienne 3-0 as Cathro's substitutions make no difference

Saint-Étienne suffered a heavy defeat at Guingamp (3-0). According to L'Équipe, Les Verts were shaky in defence and short of ideas in attack, and never looked like hitting back. The paper says manager Ian Cathro's substitutions did not work.
According to But! Football Club, which covered the match played at Roudourou, the Saint-Étienne side was top of Ligue 2 and had lost only once before making the trip.
Three goals, one before the break and two after it
The site says Les Verts had more of the ball in the first half but did nothing with it. A shot from Jakob Breum hit the post in the 26th minute. Guingamp took the lead nine minutes later: Stanislas Kielt beat goalkeeper Mamour Ndiaye after a cutback from Samir Ben Brahim.
After the break, Teddy Averlant doubled the lead with a long-range strike from 35 metres in the 49th minute. Samoura, who had just come on, made it 3-0 in the 85th minute with a lob over Ndiaye. Guingamp thus make it two wins in a row.
A Saint-Étienne defence overrun
But! Football Club says the Saint-Étienne defence was repeatedly troubled by the opposition's movement and bursts of pace. João Ferreira and Maxime Bernauer are named among the players at fault. For the first goal, Le Cardinal was beaten by Ben Brahim. For the second, nobody closed down Averlant.
Ndiaye, who was standing in for Larsonneur in goal, was beaten for the first goal, then caught out by Averlant's shot, and was then judged to have been too far off his line for Samoura's lob.
Georgia's Zuriko Davitashvili was booked in the 63rd minute for disputing a decision with the referee. The site notes that Saint-Étienne rarely troubled Ortolá despite their possession.
Laval up next
In a post published after the match, quoted by But! Football Club, AS Saint-Étienne wrote that a response was a must against Laval the following Saturday.
