According to the Fondasyon Je Klere (FJKL), Saint-Hilaire was struck by a projectile fired from a Colt M4 rifle, presumably by agents of the General Security Unit of the National Palace (USGPN). This unit had already intervened several times against students on November 20, 2019, and March 13, 2020.
Saint-Hilaire's death triggered days of protest, notably including a demonstration that occurred on October 6. The victim's family accused the authorities of a lack of judicial progress and noted that the investigation announced by the Haitian National Police (PNH) had not yet been released.
A year after the tragedy, a circle bearing his name filed a complaint targeting, among others, Joseph Jouthe, Pierre Josué Agénor Cadet, Rameau Normil, and Dimitri Hérard. The goal is to establish criminal responsibility for the student's death.
Central Demand
The family and the university community have been demanding the identification of the perpetrators of the crime as well as their trial from the beginning, emphasizing that financial assistance cannot replace a full judicial investigation.
