Fritznel Pierre states that elections in Cité Soleil cannot be democratic with the presence of gangs

Fritznel Pierre, executive director of the Committee for Peace and Development (CPD), stated on Friday, October 2, during the program "La Bande du Matin" on Radio Galaxie that "no democratic and inclusive election can take place there with the presence of gangs" in Cité Soleil. According to him, several neighborhoods remain under armed influence.

The CPD highlighted the influence of gang leaders like Micanor Altès in Wharf Jérémie, where the latter controls access to the neighborhood and can authorize or prohibit candidates' activities. Pierre asserts that the situation is similar in other areas.

He accuses certain armed groups of supporting candidates to obtain political protection in the event of an election, without providing concrete evidence. The CPD is calling for the electoral process to be secured so that candidates and voters can move freely.

Gang influence

Fritznel Pierre also mentioned the presence of "unorthodox" relationships between certain members of the private sector and armed groups in Cité Soleil, without providing further details. He considers that these ties further complicate the organization of democratic elections.
