Usain Bolt Foundation helps students affected by Hurricane Melissa
The foundation created by Olympic champion Usain Bolt announced on Wednesday that it will provide nearly 10 million Jamaican dollars (J$) to more than one hundred students affected by Hurricane Melissa. These students, from the regions of Trelawny, St. James, Hanover, and Westmoreland, have successfully completed their Primary Exit Profile (PEP). They will receive financial aid to cover school fees for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Winsome Wilkins, president of the Usain Bolt Foundation (UBF), stated that this initiative aims to ease the financial burden on families still recovering from Hurricane Melissa. The foundation will provide a total support of one million J$ per selected school, covering fees for eight high schools spread across four parishes: St. Elizabeth Technical High School and Maggoty High School in St. Elizabeth; Godfrey Stewart High School and Petersfield High School in Westmoreland; Green Island High School and Merlene Ottey High School in Hanover; as well as Green Pond High School and Maldon High School in St. James.
Furthermore, all 17 students from Waldensia Primary School who passed their PEP will each receive a grant of 100,000 J$, totaling an additional 1.7 million J$. This school is the former educational institution of Usain Bolt.
Olympic athlete Usain Bolt expressed his happiness at being able to help these students affected by Hurricane Melissa. He stated that the foundation continues to use its legacy to improve the lives of young Jamaicans and inspire a better future.
