The patient was admitted to a private hospital where she received care for several days before the diagnosis was confirmed. Health officials have identified 44 close contacts and are working to monitor individuals potentially exposed during her travel or medical treatment.
Africa CDC director general Jean Kaseya warned that this outbreak is "the most geographically widespread Ebola outbreak in history," affecting multiple countries across three regions of Africa, with a fatality rate approaching 50% in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Kaseya urged the international community to act immediately by providing financial support, medical supplies, and trained personnel. He emphasized that "with mortality rates nearing 50%, we face an extremely serious threat."
