Erik Prince says Haiti is run by the American embassy

Erik Prince, founder of Blackwater and current leader of Vectus Global, clearly states in his podcast Off Leash that Haiti is "run by the American embassy" and managed by the State Department in Washington. According to him, Haiti cannot govern itself and after each crisis, it is the embassy that takes control.

Prince specifically criticizes the management of reforms in Haiti. He accuses some American diplomats of blocking a plan aimed at financing a national security force through renegotiating fuel prices, which would have allowed the country to fund itself.

He compares Haiti's situation with that of El Salvador under Nayib Bukele, where a local leader succeeded in regaining control against gangs. Prince asserts that the State Department resisted when it should have supported reforms.

Today, Erik Prince leads operations against gangs in Haiti through Vectus Global, using drones and international fighters. He aims for a ten-year commitment that includes collecting taxes and customs at the Dominican border.

Paradox

Prince's statements raise a question: is this a break with the old American tutelage, or a new form of privatized influence? American officials claim they neither funded nor supervised the Vectus Global contract.

Erik Prince denounces U.S. dominance over Haiti but now operates with tacit approval from Haitian authorities. His private company is at the heart of a security strategy and potentially fiscal policy, revealing a complex reality of relative sovereignty in Haiti.
