Emmanuel Vertilaire, a former member of the Presidential Transition Council and leader of the political party Patriots, said on Friday, September 11, 2026, that he spent nearly half an hour registering to vote in Plaine-du-Nord. He highlighted the difficulties faced by the population during voter registration and called on electoral authorities to increase resources available at registration centers.

"Employees need internet access and adequate equipment to facilitate the process," he said. "Registration is essential for organizing elections."
Vertilaire questioned the electoral institution's ability to have a sufficiently complete list before the upcoming elections scheduled for December 13, noting that several million voters must be registered. He also highlighted the challenges related to population displacement due to insecurity.
"Can we hold credible elections if we cannot register three million voters? Elections must be honest, credible, and democratic," he added.
Facing technical and security constraints, Vertilaire calls for extending the registration period and encourages eligible citizens to register. However, he noted that Patriots will not present any candidates in the upcoming elections.
