People who want to run in the upcoming elections have until Monday, November 9, 2026, to apply for their police certificate, the Directorate General of the Haitian National Police (PNH) reminds, according to Le National and Le Nouvelliste. The deadline is meant to let police finish background checks and issue the certificates before the deadline for filing candidacies, set for November 15.
The police certificate applies to candidates for president, the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies, mayor and municipal councils. In the Ouest department, applications go to the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ). In other departments, applicants must go to the Departmental Judicial Police Services (SDPJ), according to Juno7.
Documents required
According to the list published by the PNH and reported by Juno7, the file includes:
- a copy of the document issued by the tax authority (DGI);
- a copy of the national ID card (CIN);
- a copy of the birth certificate and the matching National Archives extract;
- two recent ID photos;
- a copy of the marriage certificate, if applicable;
- a candidacy declaration letter;
- a copy of the passport's biometric page.
Vant Bèf Info, however, says the passport copy is not mandatory. The PNH advises gathering all documents before starting the process.
