Guillet Délatour specifically requested provisions allowing displaced persons to register their votes in their current place of residence. She also proposed a full waiver of fees for female candidates and an extension of the registration deadline so that more citizens can take part in the electoral process.
CEP President Peterson Pierre-Louis explained during the meeting that it is essential to harmonize the legal framework governing the elections and to simplify procedures to prevent the exclusion of candidates. Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé expressed support for the discussions initiated by the CEP with political parties.
On the same day, a CEP delegation traveled to France to discuss the participation of the Haitian diaspora in the election. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship, Raina Forbin, met with the CEP to review the conditions necessary for organizing out-of-country voting.
CEP Executive Director Uder Antoine has been under investigation since the government's controversial publication of the electoral decree. The CEP has temporarily barred him from accessing the institution's premises because of these suspicions.
Political Party Concerns
Representatives of other political organizations also voiced worries regarding the penalties planned for certain candidates and the requirements linked to their eligibility. They emphasized that the CEP did not give political parties enough time to form coalitions that would benefit from exemptions.
Neutrality of the Process
Guillet Délatour stressed the need to ensure complete neutrality in the organization of the elections and to clarify the funding mechanisms for political parties. She also raised questions about the electoral schedule, which must be discussed with the various stakeholders.
