Haiti's tax office, the Direction générale des impôts (DGI), has told employers that tax withheld from wages and salaries for fiscal year 2026-2027 is now calculated using the scale of the new Tax Code, in force since 1 October 2026. The notice, numbered DG/047, is dated 21 October 2026 and signed by director general Chesnel François.
The first 360,000 gourdes of annual income are now tax-free. Under the old scale, the exemption stopped at 60,000 gourdes.
The annual scale
- 1 to 360,000 gourdes: 0%
- 360,001 to 540,000 gourdes: 12%
- 540,001 to 1,080,000 gourdes: 18%
- 1,080,001 to 2,160,000 gourdes: 25%
- above 2,160,000 gourdes: 30%
Each rate applies only to the part of income within its band, not to the whole salary, as Vant Bèf Info explains.
From October pay
The new scale applies to salaries paid for October 2026 onwards. Withheld tax must be paid over between the 1st and the 15th of each month for the previous month. The DGI urges the institutions that make the deduction to apply the new rules within that deadline, or face the surcharges set by law.
The new Tax Code was published in Le Moniteur on 30 September 2026. It also allows deductions, under conditions, for children's school fees, part of the rent and some insurance.
