Transport unions have alerted Haitian authorities about issues related to the quality of fuel being sold at several gas stations. On September 15, the Haitian Land Transport Sector (STTH) reported damage suffered by various drivers after using fuel said to be of poor quality.

Union Statements

The spokesperson for the STTH, Petrus Eustache Lerice, stated during a press conference that several automobile and motorcycle engines have been damaged. According to him, these problems are not limited to one gas station but affect multiple pumps.

Government Interventions

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) reacted by setting up a system to collect consumer complaints. It invites them to submit their grievances on a special platform, specifying the gas station involved as well as the damaged vehicle.

Environmental Concerns

The Unified Haitian Transport Movement (MUTH) has also highlighted potential environmental risks associated with using this fuel. Its secretary, Saint-Fort Dieumaïtre, believes that poor-quality fuel could contribute to an increase in pollution levels.
