Haitian painter Philippe Antoine, a visual arts teacher at the École nationale des arts (ENARTS), died on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at the age of 66, Le Nouvelliste reports. In a statement released the same day, ENARTS's general management paid tribute to the teacher.

"Mr. Antoine devoted his life, his knowledge and his time to serving his students and ENARTS," the school wrote, adding that his death leaves a great void in its academic community and in Haiti's cultural world. The circumstances of his death have not been disclosed.

A painter trained at ENARTS

Born in Port-au-Prince on January 30, 1960, Philippe Antoine studied at Collège Roger Anglade. He later became a teacher there; the school's online platform lists him, among other things, as the teacher of an introductory acrylic painting course.

At the centre of the work, partly painted by both artists together, is a large open eye by Philippe Antoine.

ENARTS extended its condolences to his family, loved ones and students.
