Orélien, aged 38, is accused of using AI to write his book and of plagiarizing certain texts. These accusations led to the removal of the novel from the selection for the Prix Goncourt. Despite this, the book has continued to enjoy significant commercial success.
On September 21, Le Nouvelliste reports that Thélyson Orélien returned to Quebec after a promotional tour in France that was cut short prematurely. He said he is ready to defend himself but when the situation calms down.
According to Rodney Saint-Eloi and James Noël, who have known the author for several years, Thélyson Orélien is a literature enthusiast and a "library rat." They highlight his admiration for authors like Albert Camus, Toni Morrison, and Romain Gary.
Rodney Saint-Eloi publicly denounces the treatment received by the author: "This young man is being publicly assassinated because his sudden rise makes him an easily disposable product."
