Security Council extends mandate of Haiti mission

Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé had pleaded for the renewal of the mandate of the international force during an intervention at the United Nations General Assembly. He emphasized that this extension should allow Haitian authorities and their partners to improve national security capabilities.

The Permanent Representative of Haiti to the Organization of American States (OAS), Jean Josué Pierre, stated: "Extending the mandate of the FRG, its full deployment, and strengthening Haitian security institutions are essential for protecting populations and creating the necessary conditions for credible elections."

The Deputy Secretary General of the OAS, Albert R. Ramdin, added: "We must support the FRG, but also ensure funding and equipment to make its operations effective."

CARICOM highlighted the importance of preventing armed groups from dictating the country's future. The Permanent Representative of Jamaica to the United Nations, Brian C. M. Wallace, said: "Armed gangs will not be allowed to determine Haiti’s future."

The extension allows Haitian and international institutions to continue their joint work to strengthen security in the country.
