According to the Dominican newspaper El Día and Vant Bèf Info, the soldiers were in the area located north of Toussaint Louverture International Airport. Reinforcements sent to the scene found no sign of the soldiers upon their arrival.
A police source consulted by Le Quotidien 509 states that the soldiers reportedly stopped at a market to make a purchase, leaving their vehicle outside. At that moment, they allegedly alerted their base, which immediately dispatched an evacuation mission.
The FRG and the Task Force launched search operations the following day, Monday, October 19. Helicopters were observed over the area to support efforts on the ground.
The incident comes less than three weeks after the United Nations Security Council extended the FRG's mandate until March 31, 2027. A special meeting dedicated to Haiti is scheduled to be held on Monday, October 19, in New York.
