The CEP indicated that this decision is a result of consultations with political actors and the adoption, during the cabinet meeting on October 5, of a modification to the electoral decree dated June 2. The stated goal of the CEP is to give candidates and political structures sufficient time to meet legal requirements.
The originally planned election campaign has also been postponed, although specific dates have not yet been communicated. The electoral calendar will be updated in collaboration with political actors and new deadlines for the campaign period will be published later.
The CEP affirms that it is working on developing a new schedule that must comply with legal and regulatory frameworks while taking into account technical constraints. The Electoral Council has not yet announced a specific new date for the upcoming elections, but indicates that it is striving to maintain a "credible, transparent, and inclusive" process.
Registration Details
Data published by the CEP as of October 6 shows that 12 candidacies have been registered for the presidency, 265 for senators, 843 for deputies, 611 for mayors, and similar numbers for other positions.
