A vocation born at the Centre d'art
It was while working as an employee at the Centre d'art in Port-au-Prince that he discovered painting. He began painting himself in 1945.
The walls of Holy Trinity
In 1950, he created several murals for the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Port-au-Prince, a project that also involved Philomé Obin, Préfète Duffaut, Toussaint Auguste, Rigaud Benoit and Wilson Bigaud. There, Bazile painted the Ascension in the apse, as well as the Baptism of Jesus and a scene where Jesus drives the merchants from the temple in the north transept. The January 2010 earthquake destroyed the building.
Work in museums
His paintings are held in the collections of the Museum of Haitian Art of St. Pierre College in Port-au-Prince, the Davenport Museum of Art in Iowa, the Milwaukee Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Castera Bazile died on February 27, 1966, in Port-au-Prince.
