Canapé-Vert: Centre Hospitalier MedCenter bills itself as fully solar, opening yet to be confirmed

A new healthcare facility, the Centre Hospitalier MedCenter (CHM), presents itself as a hospital powered entirely by solar energy, located in Canapé-Vert, Port-au-Prince. Island TV drew attention to the centre in an Instagram post in October.
According to Island TV, it is a three-story building designed to run entirely on solar energy, with on-site medical oxygen production, digital patient management and a 24-hour emergency service. The channel noted, however, that the facility's official opening date and full operational capacity "have yet to be independently confirmed".
What the hospital says
The facility's official website, chm.ht, repeats these points. It describes a "modern building of three levels" with a technical basement, in which "the whole" building (operating theatres, intensive care, air conditioning and biomedical equipment) is said to run "100% on solar energy". According to the site, the hospital stays operational day and night "without depending on the public grid" (translated from French).
CHM also says it has a "mini-plant" that continuously produces medical oxygen and medical air, piped to the operating theatres, intensive care and patient rooms. The facility calls itself "100% paperless" and says it is run with AyidaHMS, hospital management software covering electronic patient records, admissions, appointments, pharmacy and laboratory.
The services listed include 24/7 emergency and ambulance care, an operating suite for scheduled and emergency surgery, intensive care, air-conditioned inpatient rooms, mobile medical imaging units and outpatient consultations by appointment, Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visiting hours are daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The site gives the address as #6, Impasse Gabriel, Canapé-Vert, and the number +509 3939 3980 for emergencies and the switchboard.
Questions still unanswered
Neither the hospital's website nor Island TV's post says who runs or owns the facility, or how many beds it has. No inauguration date is given. As of 1 November 2026, NAGO had found no article in the Haitian press confirming the centre's opening or its full entry into service.
The announcement comes as insecurity and infrastructure problems weigh heavily on access to healthcare in the capital, as Island TV pointed out.
This article was corrected on November 1, 2026.
