Bukele dismisses predictions of failure in Haiti and says he is certain of victory

Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele is dismissing predictions that the operation against gangs in Haiti will fail, expressing confidence that it will succeed. In a message posted on X, he explained that he has received numerous comments and analyses. These suggest that Haitian gangs are different from those his country has fought, that they are heavily armed, and that no one has managed to defeat them. According to him, these warnings will not change his government's stance. He predicts that those who speak this way will change their tune once victory is achieved.

A response to a Dominican analyst

According to N Digital, this message was a response to Humberto Salazar, a Dominican doctor and analyst. He had suggested on X that Haiti could become Bukele's political and military "Waterloo." Salazar highlighted the security situation, the nature of the criminal organizations, and a lack of familiarity with Haitian terrain as obstacles for Salvadoran forces. He also pointed out that, in his view, past international interventions have not resolved the crisis in any lasting way.

Faith brought to the forefront

Bukele is framing the mission from a religious perspective. He asserts that all the men involved are believers and that the operation has been placed in divine hands. He concludes his message with the biblical passage Deuteronomy 28:7, which speaks of the defeat of enemies. N Digital notes that he added that the threats from Haitian gangs would not intimidate him.

According to El Día, the president also described these groups as satanic and attributed human sacrifices to them.

The four missing technicians

According to N Digital, the operation aims to locate four Salvadoran aeronautical technicians who went missing after an ambush on October 18 in Croix-des-Bouquets, on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince. They belonged to the GSF, an international mission supported by the United Nations to bolster security in Haiti. Bukele announced the military operation on October 21. He is demanding their release alive and unharmed, and has warned that the response could intensify if they are not returned under those conditions.

El Salvador has dispatched members of its special forces to bolster the search, while the multinational force and Haitian authorities continue their operations in the area. According to the latest reports available, neither the location of the four men nor their condition has been confirmed.
