The United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) held an awareness day in Port-au-Prince on Friday, 6 November 2026, for young people who will vote for the first time. More than 150 young people took part, according to BINUH.
It was the second round of the campaign in the capital, following sessions in Cap-Haïtien and Jacmel. The goal: help first-time voters understand why they need to register on the electoral rolls before the elections.
Testimonies and on-site registration
Young leaders shared their experience to explain the electoral process and encourage involvement in public life. A mobile voter registration unit was on site, and dozens of young people registered as voters during the day, BINUH said.
"Voting is a right, but also a civic duty," Christee Guirand, who took part in the day, wrote on Instagram.
With the CEP and two ministries
The activities are carried out with the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Women's Rights (MCFDF), the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Civic Action (MJSAC) and several civil society organisations.
BINUH says it remains committed to supporting national authorities and their partners for inclusive citizen participation and a credible electoral process. On 19 October, before the Security Council, its head Carlos Ruiz Massieu said the mission would step up outreach to first-time voters, especially young people and women.
