Dominican President Luis Abinader declared on Saturday that his country is ready to treat any attempt by Haitian criminal organizations to approach the border as a terrorist threat.
Abinader indicated that border personnel and equipment had been reinforced to deal with the current situation in neighboring countries. He emphasized that his government had already classified these gangs as terrorist organizations, which determines how they are treated in case of incursion or threat to Dominican territory.

The president also mentioned that he had coordinated with Nayib Bukele, the president of El Salvador, to strengthen regional cooperation in the effort against armed Haitian gangs. This coordination includes mechanisms for logistical and intelligence collaboration.

The Dominican Armed Forces have deployed aircraft, armored vehicles, and drones along the border to enhance surveillance and ensure the country's security in light of instability in Haiti. Abinader reaffirmed that defending the border is an absolute priority for his government.
