Hurricane Simon caused one death and property damage along Mexico’s Pacific coast on Monday, according to authorities.
The victim was a 71-year-old man who died when a wall collapsed in Chilpancingo, Guerrero state. Governor Evelyn Salgado reported this during the daily presidential press conference.
Simon weakened as it moved slowly along the coast, reducing its threat of severe destruction. The storm is expected to hit Mazatlan, Sinaloa, as a Category 1 hurricane on Wednesday night, according to forecasts from the US National Hurricane Center (NHC).
Puerto Vallarta experienced clear skies and mild conditions despite initial concerns about heavy impacts. Tourists exercised along the seafront promenade while waves continued to crash with force.
