Extended Trade Truce
Washington and Beijing have decided to maintain a trade truce until January 10, 2027, allowing both nations to continue discussions on various economic issues. This decision was announced by the White House following a state visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to the United States.
UN Resolution for Haiti
The United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 2829 (2026) on Tuesday, extending the mandate of the Gang Reduction and Stabilization Force (FRG/GSF) in Haiti until March 31, 2027. The vote was 12 in favor, none against, and three abstentions.
Differences Over Intervention
The United States maintains that the FRG can help restore calm to the streets of Haiti by resuming its primary peacekeeping functions. China, however, expresses "doubts and concerns" about the effectiveness of a military intervention to resolve the country's security situation.
